In early 2009, the Meyersdale Borough Council created a task force to address economic issues in the community. The initial group included business leaders, Borough representatives, and concerned citizens. They held brain-storming sessions to address the needs of the community and to identify ways to improve Meyersdale, including public meetings to gain input from citizens. For nearly a year, the group met weekly, before formally organizing as the Meyersdale Area Merchants’ Association.
One of the first association projects was formation
of the Maple City Farmers Market. In the summer of 2009, the Maple City Farmers Market opened for its first season, and continues today in modified form, with great success.
Ronald F. Yutzy was an influential and respected accountant and businessman in Somerset County. His passion for civic and service organizations was well-known.
